Our Story
Author: Lauri Danska
According to oral tradition, the name Danska (also spelled Tanska) originates from the 16th century when our ancestors sailed to Finland, then part of Sweden, from Denmark and settled to cultivate the land in the present-day Haminan area.
My childhood family moved to the ancestral farm in the early 1990s. There was no shortage of work: clearing brushwood, tending to animals and garden plots, driving tractors, and assisting in building renovations. My father continues to manage the farm as a hobby. The fearless atmosphere towards rural work perhaps shaped my mindset towards entrepreneurship from an early age. Nevertheless, I was also interested in films, playing the cello, and photography.
A friend remarked to me when I was in my twenties, "You are a very individualistic person, and you will likely become an entrepreneur." Consequently, I established a sole proprietorship at an early stage.
I undertook various photography and assisting roles for different entities before studying at the National Film and Television School in the United Kingdom. Upon returning from London to Finland in 2016, I began directing TV documentaries as a freelancer for Yle, Finnish Brodcasting Company. However, I came to the conclusion that a broader and more stable operation required my own company.
In 2019, I founded DanskArts Ltd without a loan or significant initial capital, and we have operated on a self-funding basis since then. The goal from the beginning was to focus not only on directing but also on documentary-style corporate and TV productions. This direction has proven successful, and we have had the opportunity to evolve alongside excellent business partners and clients. In late 2023, we also had the privilege of producing our first original children's program, commissioned by Yle as part of the Pikku Kakkonen lineup.
Our goals for the coming years are to grow steadily and develop our operations for future productions. Every customer is our most important customer. We aim to keep the production process transparent and interactive—achieving the best results together. We strive for well-planned and meaningful aspects across all production areas, in addition to a satisfied client. We believe that smooth project management and unhurried yet efficient on-location operation reflect positively in the final result.
You can always reach out to us, even if the final need is not yet clear.
